COTU boss Francis Atwoli endorses Kalonzo Musyoka to lead Kenya’s position!

Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU-K) Secretary General, Francis Atwoli, declared his endorsement of Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka to spearhead the opposition on Sunday, April 28.

Atwoli made the announcement during a speech at St Stephen’s ACK Church, Jogoo Road. He mentioned having communicated his decision to Azimio Leader Raila Odinga and former president Uhuru Kenyatta.

During a Labor Day Thanksgiving Prayer event, Atwoli expressed his belief that a new leader was necessary for the opposition, citing Raila’s repeated losses in presidential elections.

He further disclosed that since Azimio’s defeat in the 2022 general election, he had only met with Raila and Uhuru once.

“In our last meeting after the election, I asked Kalonzo to lead the opposition because Raila had tried enough,” Atwoli spoke of the endorsement.

Atwoli further stated that following the meeting, he withdrew his support from the coalition and fully backed President William Ruto’s administration.

He justified his stance by emphasizing that as a trade unionist, he couldn’t afford to remain outside the government.

Having been a member of the Azimio coalition, Atwoli acknowledged that President Ruto had effectively outmaneuvered them to secure the presidency.

“When Azimio lost elections, I told Raila and Uhuru that Ruto was smarter than us. I could not understand how a sitting president could not deliver the presidency to Raila,” Atwoli explained.

Former Vice president Kalonzo, being present at the Labor Thanksgiving service, refrained from commenting on whether such a meeting had taken place. More
