Uhuru park is no place for political rallies- Ruto’s point man Adan Duale now says!

Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has declared that Uhuru and Central Parks will no longer be available for political rallies.

During a plenary session at the Senate on Wednesday, April 17, Duale announced that the national government and Nairobi County had entered into a memorandum of understanding to prohibit political gatherings in these parks.

Duale emphasized that alternative venues exist for politicians to hold their rallies, while ensuring that Uhuru and Central Parks remain open for the enjoyment of Kenyans during weekends.

“That park will never again be used by politicians to address rallies, it is out of bounds. Those of us in the political class will look for another venue so that Uhuru Park and Central Park belong to the residents of Nairobi and other Kenyans.

“It was the best place for popular parties like ODM and others in Kenya Kwanza but I think there are many other open places we will go,” said Duale.

Duale highlighted that the renovation of Uhuru Park is nearing completion, with Central Park’s refurbishment also well underway.

During the announcement, the Defence CS mentioned that the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) would be relinquishing control of Uhuru Park to Nairobi County within sixty days.

“KDF cannot stay in a place without anything, we have told the governor to just sign for us that we will be with you for six months to show you and as we transition we will have something to cover our officers,” Duale explained. More
