Big win for Uhuru Kenyatta after landing a role ahead of south African elections!

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has assumed a new role ahead of the South African elections. He has been appointed to lead the African Union Election Observation Mission (AUEOM) to South Africa.

The mission, under Uhuru’s leadership, comprises 60 short-term observers (STOs), including three Core Team electoral experts. They are scheduled to observe the elections from May 21 to June 3, 2024.

Uhuru’s responsibilities will include providing impartial reporting and assessment of the quality of the General Elections on May 29 in South Africa.

This assessment will evaluate the extent to which the conduct of the elections aligns with regional, continental, and international standards for democratic elections.

Additionally, Uhuru Kenyatta will be responsible for providing recommendations aimed at enhancing future elections, drawing from the observations and assessments made during his tenure leading the African Union Election Observation Mission (AUEOM) in South Africa.

Part of his assignment will involve demonstrating the African Union’s solidarity and backing for South Africa’s electoral process.

He aims to ensure that the conduct of democratic, credible, and peaceful elections contributes significantly to the consolidation of democratic governance, as well as fostering peace and stability within the country.

“The AUEOM will engage with several stakeholders and observe the final preparations and polling process. Based on the findings, the AUEOM will issue its preliminary statement after Election Day,” the statement read in part.

Uhuru Kenyatta has previously played a significant role in observing elections in Nigeria, where he provided a favorable assessment of the electoral process, giving it a clean bill of health. More
