Heavy blow to Ruto as Court suspends finance act 2023!

President William Ruto and his Kenya Kwanza troop have once again endured a heavy blow just days after finance bill was passed by the National Assembly.

This is after high court judge by the name of Mugure Thande issued conservatory orders on Friday, 30th of June 2023, suspending the implementation of the Finance Act, 2023.

This comes days after Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah filed a petition, urging the court to suspend the tax hikes.

The court also granted Omtatah’s request to bar Ruto from enacting the Finance Act 2023.

“I am satisfied that the Application meets the test for conservatory orders and I do grant prayers 2 and 3 of the Application until July, 5 when the matter is scheduled for mention for directions.

“Pending the hearing and determination of the application and/or the Petition, the Honourable Court be pleased to issue a conservatory order suspending the Finance Act, 2023,” the court ruling read in part.

The Court therefore ordered the respondents to file their responses by Tuesday, July 4, after which the High Court will list a hearing date. More
