Family demand answers after senior cop involved in Haiti mission dies!

The family of the late Walter Nyamata, a respected senior Kenyan Inspector of Police, who passed away in Washington DC, USA in February, is now seeking answers.

Walter, who served as a personal assistant to Deputy Inspector General Noor Gabow, was part of a team conducting a reconnaissance mission for the Kenya-Haiti deployment initiative.

The 39-year-old was discovered deceased in a hotel in the US capital and was laid to rest on Friday, March 16, at Nyatieko village in Nyamira County.

After the burial ceremony, Walter’s father, speaking to the media, expressed concern over the lack of explanations from the government regarding the circumstances surrounding his son’s death.

He mentioned the government’s failure to provide the autopsy report, autopsy findings, or the death certificate.

“We asked for the provisional report to show the post-mortem finding, and they refused to give us. Even the death certificate provided by the US, they are yet to submit, it.

“When the body first arrived in Kenya, they barred us from viewing it. Later, they called us to the Lee Funeral Home, where we confirmed it was our son,” the deceased father stated.

Additionally, the family disclosed that the late officer’s brother, currently residing in the US, was denied access to view the body shortly after the pronouncement of death, allegedly being placed under US custody.

Mourners, who gathered in large numbers to bid farewell to the serviceman, voiced concerns about the absence of senior officials from the police service and the office of the Inspector General.

Feeling let down by the government, the family is exploring legal avenues to seek answers about what transpired concerning their relative.

The father, recalling his final conversation with the deceased before he embarked on the trip, mentioned that his son was indeed accompanied by his colleagues on a hastily arranged mission.

“He told us he would not come back home soon because the date of the trip to the US was fast approaching,” the father narrated.  More
