Government announces new school opening date.

The government’s latest declaration is that schools are set to resume classes on Monday, May 13, 2024.

President William Ruto conveyed this update from State House, Nairobi, while in discussion with leaders from Kajiado and Laikipia.

This decision follows closely after President Ruto instructed the Ministry of Education to suspend the reopening of schools for the second term indefinitely due to the country’s ongoing flood crisis.

During a National Address at State House, Nairobi, on Friday, May 3, the President highlighted the anticipated escalation of the heavy rains causing widespread damage across the nation.

“The Ministry of Education is directed to postpone the dates of reopening of all schools in the country for the second term until further notice,” Ruto directed.

The President observed that transportation has become increasingly difficult in numerous areas across the country due to flooded and damaged roads and bridges. Additionally, there’s a looming threat posed by raging rivers and overflowing dams in downstream regions. More
