Why Ruto’s party UDA forced to postpone election in 20 centers.

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party has rescheduled elections in 20 centers due to severe rainfall causing flooding across the country.

Anthony Mwaura, Chairperson of the UDA National Elections Board, announced in a statement that the grassroots elections will now be held today, Sunday, May 5, 2024.

“The rescheduled elections will now take place tomorrow, on the 5th of May 2024, commencing from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm,” read the statement in part.

The impacted areas comprise Tipet Primary School, Kasitei Polling Centre, Riting Primary School, Kodungole Polling Centre, Chepokachim Polling Centre, Salawa Polling Centre, Mosongkaghin Polling Centre, Kaptemo Primary School, Mumot Polling Centre, and Muno Ecder Centre, all situated in Endough ward, Kapenguria.

In Pokot South, UDA polling at Kapchikar Primary School in Tapach Ward, Nyarkulian Primary School in Tapach Ward, and Tororo Primary School in Tapach Ward has been postponed.

Similarly, in Narok North, primary elections have been deferred at Oyarata Polling Station, Olopirik Polling Station, Ilpoltol Polling Station, Entiyani Polling Station, and Medungi Polling Station.

These postponements come shortly after the UDA party’s announcement of plans to re-run elections in areas where polling couldn’t take place or was inconclusive due to the countrywide flooding.

“We have resolved that in the interest of justice and fairness, we hold repeat elections in the selected areas where voting did not take part entirely or was not conclusive. We have thus planned to hold elections in 538 polling centers on Saturday, May 4, 2024.

“We are certain that given the limited number of polling centers, we will be able to cover the areas,” Mwaura announced. More
