Speaker Wetangula’s move was widely protested by Azimio allied leaders, something that sprout chaos in Parliament, forcing the speaker to adjourn the house.

Lead by Suna East Member of Parliament and Azimio confidant Junet Mohamed, the opposition allied leaders termed Wetangula’s ruling as state capture.

The minority Whip lashed out at the Speaker for what he termed as assuming roles that do not belong to his office.

“This is the capture of Parliament by the Executive, it has begun. It is for the first time a Speaker in his place is removing Members of Parliament from one party to another party.

“He has become the Registrar of Political Parties, he is the Speaker of the National Assembly, he is Law unto himself,” angry Junet said.

Junet’s sentiments were echoed by nominated leader John Mbadi who said only the Registrar of Political Parties has the mandate to declare who belongs to which party and not the speaker of National Assembly or senate. More
