The high court has suspended the Nairobi gubernatorial by-elections after the impeached governor Mike Sonko Moved to court to challenge the impeachment process.
In the ruling made on Monday, 4th Jan 2021, the judge suspended the exercise which was set for 18th February 2021 pending the determination of the case challenging Sonko’s impeachment.
Sonko had ,oved to court on December 2020 to challenge the decision by the Senate to uphold his impeachment by the Nairobi County Assembly.
Sonko sought the court to freeze the swearing in exercise of the County Assembly speaker, an exercise which was carried out in December last year.

After the swearing in process, the Mike Sonko’s lawyers amended their petition claiming that, the Senate was biased in their motion.
“The Senate applied the political doctrine instead of the law and the Constitution,” read part part of the statement.

Court’s decision to suspend the by-elections is a very big blow to people like Miguna Miguna , who had already started warming up to take over Nairobi. more
