During his speech, the head of state emphasized on what he has been saying about the issue of paying taxes and him leading by example.

However, Ruto expressed concern that high number of Kenyans are registered with Mobile Money services MPesa compared to the number on KRA portal.

According to Ruto, everybody who has an Mpesa line should be able to pay taxes, urged the concerned Authority to look into the matter with immediate effect.

The imperative of embracing technology solutions to KRA strategic issues is clear. There are only 7 million people with KRA pin numbers.

“At the same time, in the same economy, Safaricom’s Mpesa has 30 million registered customers transacting billions daily.

“The fact that this opportunity remains unclear to KRA demonstrates why radicle changes are necessary. Every Kenyan with an ID should have a pin number, just as simple as that,” said Ruto as he emphasized that everybody must pay taxes. More
