Ruto had promised that police will never again be used by politicians to carry political duties adding that he give them control over their finances.

On that matter, the president has directed Treasury Cabinet secretary Ukur Yatani to transfer the financial responsibilities of the National Police Service from the Ministry of Interior and National Coordination.

In a letter dated September 15th September 2022, Yatani told Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai that he will now be the accounting officer in charge of the money allocated to the National Police Service in the 2022/23 financial year.

“In order to facilitate the Cabinet Secretary responsible for your Ministry to perform functions under the Constitution, as an Accounting Officer, you are required to keep your Cabinet Secretary updated on all financial matters of the Ministry and provide information and reports as may be directed,” the letter states.
